680 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Born into a family of physicians, Dr. Ashwini Dhume cultivated a keen interest in research and therapeutic development, building a successful 25-year career in the pharmaceutical industry. After receiving a PharmB from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University in her home country of India, she immigrated to the United States to attend Creighton University. Graduating with a PhD in biomedical sciences in 2002, she became a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Soon after concluding her fellowships, she joined Novo Nordisk as a scientist and writer. At Novo Nordisk, Dr. Dhume played a pivotal role in the launch of a glucagon-like peptide-1 drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Inspired by her many family members living with diabetes and the limited treatment options available to them, she was personally invested in developing a distinct class of medications to improve and streamline diabetic care. She takes pride in knowing that her contributions have not only positively impacted the wider community but also made a tangible difference in her family members’ lives. Currently, Dr. Dhume serves as the head of scientific communications and oversees all aspects related to solid tumor therapies, including tumors of the lung, prostate, and bladder. Responsible for managing up to 25 staff members, her work has been instrumental in creating an innovative strategy for Johnson & Johnson’s solid tumor treatment portfolio. By examining the company’s trajectory alongside the needs of patients, she identifies the decision points that physicians encounter and develops a communication plan to address those decision points and provide better care for patients. In her two years at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, Dr. Dhume has touched the lives of over 5,000 individuals through the medications she helped create and her work in structuring a new department within the company’s oncology division. Dr. Dhume considers the continued success of that department to be one of her greatest achievements, and she looks forward to continuing to cement her professional legacy in years to come.
