He also received an MS in national resource planning from the National Defense University. A member of the Forbes Technology Council, World Economic Forum and Aspen Cybersecurity Group, Mr. Daniel is further recognized as a public speaker and cybersecurity expert. In the coming years, Mr. Daniel intends to expand the scope of CTA to further advance the organization’s mission, thereby successfully raising the level of cybersecurity across all digital platforms. He has been honored with the Leadership Award from the Baldridge Foundation in 2023, was named Cybersecurity CEO of the Year in 2023, and earned the Mission Award from Homeland Security Today in 2022, among many other accolades. A distinguished figure in the field of cybersecurity, J. Michael Daniel has excelled as the president and chief executive officer of the Cyber Threat Alliance (CTA) since 2017. As CTA’s first president, Mr. Daniel has helped the organization thrive, having initially been founded by six different cybersecurity companies. CTA is recognized as a nonprofit information-sharing organization headed by Mr. Daniel, who has approximately 22 years of service in cybersecurity through the federal government to his credit. Earlier in his career, Mr. Daniel worked for the Office of Management and Budget, where his interest in cybersecurity was piqued. Serving as the program examiner from 1995 to 2001 and branch chief from 2001 to 2012, he assisted in the allocation of funds for cyber resources. He subsequently began serving as the special assistant to former President Barack Obama and the United States cybersecurity coordinator between 2012 and 2017. During this time, he also served on the staff of the National Security Council, where he aided in the creation and fortification of the government’s novel cybersecurity policies. Likewise, he headed the development of a presidential executive order that allowed corporations to enhance their own cybersecurity frameworks, a pioneering approach that is still being utilized today.
