An expert in data analytics and artificial intelligence, Lucy Zhu immigrated to the United States from her home country of China in 1995. In 1997, she attended Louisiana State University’s E.J. Ourso College of Business, pursuing a Master of Science in economics. Upon her graduation in 1999, she began her career in analytics with Advanta Corp. Eighteen months later, she joined RPM Direct, a small startup company. As a director of data analytics at RPM, Ms. Zhu worked alone. The company founders recognized her talent and tasked her with building a new team specializing in marketing analytics. This team would then leverage consumer data and predictive modeling techniques to effectively select target audiences for marketing campaigns. By 2015, RPM had become a successful marketing arm for many companies and was subsequently acquired by Exlservice Holdings Inc. Ms. Zhu has since continued to drive large-scale, cost-effective marketing programs for clients. Her team has also grown with colleagues based in the United States and India. In 2021, she was promoted to a senior vice president position. Before machine learning models became widely popular, Ms. Zhu developed an efficient methodology for building predictive models by leveraging decision tree algorithms.
