McAdams serves as the president of the staff and advocacy team at the Advanced Biofuels Association, a trade organization that serves as a leading voice for the energy sector. The business particularly spearheads initiatives to decarbonize transportation fuel. In his position, Mr. McAdams works alongside the 19th largest law firm in the world, Holland & Knight, as a senior policy advisor on renewable energy. Recognized for his longstanding expertise in renewable fuel standards, he draws on over 50 years of experience in the field, beginning as a congressional page during his early youth. After earning a BA in political science at Virginia Tech, Mr. McAdams worked in the office of U.S. Representative Ray Roberts of Texas before joining the presidential campaign of Jimmy Carter in 1980. Returning to Congress as the legislative director of U.S. Representative Ralph Hall, he encountered numerous energy and environmental concerns over four years, after which he departed from Capitol Hill in 1988 to work for the Fertilizer Institute. During this time, Mr. McAdams studied at the American University Washington College of Law, where he earned a JD in energy and the environment in 1990. Subsequently working for British Petroleum (BP), Mr. McAdams was deeply involved in the company’s emerging green policies between 1995 and 1996, helping to create the first carbon reduction program in the United States and making global history at the behest of Lord John Browne. Recognized for his contributions, Mr. McAdams published a featured article on the program in the Wall Street Journal. Over the following years, Mr. McAdams would go on to earn further acclaim as one of the architects of the largest refinery settlement in the history of the United States in 1998. The deal covered all nine of BP’s refineries and delivered eight million tons of toxic reductions within 13 months.
