Dr. Taylor’s research interests were shaped and inspired by the work of pioneering biochemist Dr. Richard Dickerson, whose identification of a mitochondrial protein structure helped pave the way for further cellular and biochemical imaging innovations. Building on this research, Dr. Taylor traveled to laboratories in England early in his career to study 2D to 3D imaging processes, leading to further refinements in electron microscopy and electron tomography. Dr. Taylor spent the first fifteen years of his career as a faculty member at the Duke University Medical Center, and he has served as a professor at Florida State University since 1995. His work has culminated in the creation of atomic models of muscle components, and his laboratory is currently focused on imaging striated muscle filaments at sub-nanometer resolutions, enabling new developments in the understanding of its structure. In recognition of his additions to scientific bodies of knowledge, Dr. Taylor became a fellow of the Microscopy Society of America, and he is the recipient of a 2022 Distinguished Scientist in Biology Award. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Structural Biology and an eminent member of the Biophysical Society, the Microscopy Society of America, and the American Chemical Society. In light of his achievements, he credits much of his success to his constant pursuit of knowledge and desire to explore the unexamined. D r. Kenneth Allen Taylor is a researcher and educator known for his work in cryogenic electron microscopy and its applications in identifying and studying muscular cell structure.
