226 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. Purcell Taylor Jr. is a professor emeritus of psychology in forensic science at the University of Cincinnati, where he spent nearly 40 years teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. An expert in forensic evaluations for sex offenders, trial competency and substance use disorders, he served as an expert witness and educator for the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office. Furthermore, he has published extensively on chemical dependency and evaluation models. A decorated United States Marine Corps veteran, Dr. Taylor initially hoped to become a cardiac surgeon before entering the field of psychology. He holds a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education in school psychology from the University of Cincinnati. At the onset of his clinical career, he worked in schools and both state-run and community health settings, transitioning into consulting and administrative roles in the early 1980s. Dr. Taylor joined the faculty of the University of Cincinnati in 1974, teaching psychiatry and psychology, in addition to establishing the DECLARE Therapy Center. He ultimately accepted professor emeritus status in 2013, and he is proud of the impact that he had on the institution’s community, in addition to his other teaching appointments at Cincinnati State College, Northern Kentucky State University and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Taylor remained active in clinical practice for much of his career and has been recognized for his professional and academic excellence with honors from the National Association of Social Sciences, the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission, and the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. He credits his success to his determination, resiliency and commitment to his work. Since retiring from full-time work, he has continued to research and write, with plans to publish a new book on the social psychology of sex offenders in the coming years.
