He ultimately achieved a PhD in the same subject at Texas A&M University in 1973, becoming one of the first three graduates of the program. Dr. Ward began his career as a consultant for the United States Civil Service Commission and the United States Army Corps of Engineers and went on to consult for early leaders in the computing and technology sector, including Texas Instrument and General Dynamics. By the early 1980s, he witnessed the beginnings of the microcomputer and personal computing boom that would enjoy a renaissance during the decade, and he founded eInstruction, one of the earliest educational technology ventures, in 1981. Dr. Ward remained as the chief executive officer of the organization until 2008 when he moved into his current role as chief executive officer of ALL In Learning, a K-12 academic platform focused on student response collection and creating K-5 core content. In addition to his industry work, Dr. Ward has taught mathematics and computer science at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, the University of North Texas, and the University of Mississippi—where he helped establish the computer science department. He has also published extensively in professional journals, holds two patents for smartboard technologies, and is the author of a book on technology entrepreneurship. Dr. Ward looks forward to continuing his work in creating and promoting creative solutions to classroom problems and is currently in the process of developing an elementary mathematics curriculum.
