Much of his work in this regard included international postings in Chile, Argentina, Italy and Austria for the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service. While stationed in Washington, DC, he managed commodity analysis and international trade policy. He concluded his service operating as the director of the Development Resources and Disaster Assistance Division. He also served as an agricultural consultant and a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Paraguay. Currently, he leverages his expertise as the head of operations at Agriculture Trade and Resource Development Consulting. Mr. Curtis holds a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Michigan State University, as well as degrees in resource development and public affairs management. He is fully committed to further helping others improve their lives and boost their happiness through his martial arts teachings. Robert Roberto Curtis is an entrepreneur, retired United States Foreign Service officer, and ninth-degree karate black belt who has taught martial arts and self-defense for more than 45 years. His interest in martial arts was sparked by Eastern philosophy and a desire to explore self-defense options while growing up in Detroit. He discovered his martial arts passion in the 1960s, studying judo, kung fu, and karate and connecting with his long-term mentor, Okinawan karate grandmaster Seikichi Iha. Mr. Curtis began teaching in Virginia in the 1980s and also taught karate to U.S. Embassy security personnel, U.S. Marines, and many others during overseas assignments. Since 2010, he has been the owner and head instructor of the Virginia Dojo, where he has helped hundreds of students improve their lives and happiness by finding a sense of mastery and empowerment through martial arts. He remains enthusiastic about the overall wellness benefits of martial arts practice, and he hopes to help even more students — particularly women — discover, empower, and improve their lives and safety through martial arts practice.
