348 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS and Design at the University of Rhode Island from 1988 to 2017, teaching textile conservation, historic textiles and dress, and textile science; these have remained the focus areas of her research, in addition to archaeological textiles. She taught her first textile conservation course in 1976 at Kansas State University, the first institution to offer this course of study. Academically, she received a BS and MS from the University of Tennessee and a PhD from Florida State University in 1978. In light of her fulfilling career, Dr. Ordoñez attributes her success to the support of her parents, family and colleagues. Likewise, in accounting for her achievements, she is particularly proud to have served as teacher, mentor and positive influence for her students over many years. Looking toward the future, Dr. Ordoñez plans to continue her research and conservation services while also empowering others to pursue their dreams. Dr. Margaret T. Ordoñez leverages nearly fifty years of experience in teaching and practicing textile conservation. Since 2017, she has maintained a private practice, serving as the owner of Ordoñez Textile Conservation Services, located in Senoia, Georgia. Utilizing her skills in cleaning, stabilizing, repairing and exhibiting textiles, and equally skilled in fiber analysis and archaeological textiles, Dr. Ordoñez offers her services to museums, auction houses and private clients throughout New England and the southern United States. To remain abreast of developments in the fields of textile conservation, history and science, Dr. Ordoñez remains active within several pertinent organizations, including the Costume Society of America, Textile Society of America, North American Textile Conservation Conference, American Quilt Study Group and American Institute for Conservation. She also co-authored the 2022 guide “Conservation Concerns in Fashion Collections: Caring for Problematic Twentieth-Century Textiles, Apparel, and Accessories.” To commemorate her accomplishments, Dr. Ordoñez was honored as a fellow of the Costume Society of America.
