Dr. Seydou Samaké has cultivated a fulfilling career as a veterinarian and public health official. For the last five years, he has served as a senior staff officer and veterinary medical officer for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). He brings nearly 20 years of expertise in science and agricultural policy to the role, where he is responsible for helping streamline and enforce meat and poultry inspection and import and export regulations. Born in Mali, Dr. Samaké developed an interest in veterinary medicine after helping to herd and tend to his family’s cattle as a child. Driven by a desire to help treat sick animals and serve as a community resource, Dr. Samaké earned a DVM from Ecole Nationale Veterinaire Toulouse France and an additional MS in veterinary pathology and microbiology from the University of Montreal. In 1996, he achieved a PhD in animal biotechnology at the University of Montreal.
