Leveraging a lifetime of expertise in mining, prospecting and management, Mr. Downie hails from various management roles at Equinox Gold Corp., Premier Gold Mines Limited and Skybridge Development Corp. He also served as a field explorer for Wolfden Resources, BHP and other mining companies. Throughout his career, he has prided himself on his ability to ensure every project he undertakes is completed on time and according to the wishes of his clients. Outside of his primary efforts, Mr. Downie operated as a school teacher throughout much of the 1990s and 2000s, during which time he taught geography, manufacturing and design technology. Beginning at an elementary school within the Ojibway First Nation band of Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek in 1991, he went on to work at the Super-Greenstone District School and the Lakehead District School. As a teacher, Mr. Downie was gratified to exert a positive impact on the lives of his students. Mr. Downie first studied geography at Lakehead University, where he earned a BA, with honors, in 1988 and an EdB in 1991. He also undertook graduate coursework in urban and regional planning, as well as design technology, at Queen’s University in 1990 and 2007, respectively. Well-qualified in his field, he was certified in sustainable mining techniques by the Mining Association of Canada. Mr. Downie attributes much of his success to his family’s influence in mining — his father was well-regarded as a geologist in Canada. Among his accomplishments, he is proud to have helped close a large-scale deal with the Newmont Corporation during his time at Premier Gold Mines, which resulted in the acquisition of a mining property in Nevada. Looking ahead, he aims to participate in future environmental management projects or join a mining company as an executive to share his expertise with others.
