ROSE EMILY LORENZO CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER i2O Entrepreneur and STEAM Academy Fuquay Varina, NC Dr. Rose Emily Lorenzo has distinguished herself as the chief executive officer of i20 Entrepreneur and STEAM Academy, an enrichment program whose mission is to imbue students with the knowledge they need to achieve their goals. Aiming to provide children with practical skills in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics, the i20 & STEAM program has partnered with the Institute for American Apprenticeships, Jobs for the Future, and the University of Phoenix to connect students with employment opportunities upon graduation, or establish business endeavors in their own right. Outside of the STEAM fields, other programs consist of entrepreneurship coaching, digital art, music, photography, and a young leadership and apprenticeship course, truly positioning children for success without the burden of student loan debt. Adjacent to her primary endeavors, Dr. Lorenzo is the chief executive officer of Hackathon Jr., a company she co-founded during the first year of her residency at the University of Phoenix. Tasked with research on emotional intelligence, she was inspired to start a business and formed a partnership with the other residents she worked with. Hackathon’s mission is to improve the empathy of children by using technology as a platform. Hosting events for children between the ages of nine and 13, the organization offers opportunities for students to create web apps as a team in order to solve specific problems with technology. The process of creating apps involves researching topics, designing them on paper, coding them and presenting them to panelists. As a reward, the winning team wins new laptops. An entrepreneur in her own right, Dr. Lorenzo has also served as the president of Lorenzo Financial. Offering a broad array of consulting services, ranging from the creation of a business to advising on accounting and taxation, as well as increasing social media visibility. Since 1988, the company has blossomed in scope to offering its services to more than 40 small business clients throughout the United States.
