Characterized by a commitment to various projects, Dr. Stillman’s work is vast and ambitious. His forthcoming book focuses on the history of North Africa. Additionally, he is particularly proud of his work toward completing his late wife’s magnum opus, a dictionary of Arabic clothing. He previously served as an editor for her book, “Arab Dress: A Short History: From the Dawn of Islam to Modern Times,” published in 2000. Dr. Stillman is deeply committed to his work as an encyclopedia and article writer. To wit, he serves as the executive editor of “Encyclopedia of Jews in the Islamic World,” a reference work published by Brill Publishers. Relishing any opportunity to teach, Dr. Stillman is available to conduct classes both in person and online, including via webinars. He remains invested in his work and looks forward to continuing to contribute to his field in the years to come. His first two books, “The Jews of Arab Lands: A History and Source Book” and “The Jews of Arab Lands in Modern Times,” continue to be widely utilized as core texts in universities around the globe. These seminal works have been reviewed in several leading newspapers worldwide, including the Sunday New York Times and the Times of London. Published in 1979, “The Jews of Arab Lands” has been in circulation for over four decades, and Dr. Stillman is proud of its continued relevance and significance in the field. Dr. Stillman attributes his success to guidance from his educators, including his mentor, Shelomo Dov Goitein, one of the most distinguished scholars of the 20th century. He considers himself fortunate to have been mentored by inspiring teachers who were not only influential individuals but also exceptional pedagogues. As a pedagogue himself, Dr. Stillman has received numerous accolades. These include the Gary B. Cohen Distinguished Faculty Award for 2013 from The University of Oklahoma David L.
