196 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. Rachel L. Frederiksen has cultivated a fulfilling career in the field of music academia. Bolstered by over a decade of experience, she specializes in playing and teaching others to play the bassoon at the highest level. She currently excels as the teaching assistant professor of bassoon at the University of Arkansas. Likewise, since 2009, she has excelled as a freelance bassoonist, educator and studio owner. As part of her academic work, Dr. Frederiksen leads regular private lessons for ten or more students, manages her own YouTube channel, and oversees studio and personal media and recording outlets. At her university, she dedicates her time to teaching, performing and completing research. Dr. Frederiksen is similarly well-regarded for her participation in several noteworthy groups throughout her career, including the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, the Heart of Texas Concert Band and the Symphony of the Hills. She has also appeared as a featured artist on several collaborative recordings and at the International Double Reed Society Conference in 2019, 2021 and 2022. In her prior teaching roles, Dr. Frederiksen was the lecturer of bassoon at the University of Alabama from 2021 to 2023. Furthermore, she was an adjunct professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio between 2020 and 2021. Dr. Frederiksen previously pursued her own higher education, originally attending Texas Lutheran University and earning both a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education in 2013. After serving as a band director in the Nixon-Smiley CISD in Texas, she subsequently attended Baylor University and received a Master of Music and a master’s degree in music education in 2017. Dr. Frederiksen would ultimately achieve a Doctor of Musical Arts in bassoon performance at Michigan State University in 2020. Ever committed to her profession, Dr. Frederiksen remains active as a life member of Pi Kappa Lambda. She is particularly proud to serve as an educator amongst her fellow teachers and mentors, to whom she attributes much of her success. In the coming years, Dr. Frederiksen looks forward to becoming a fully tenured professor at her university and further enriching the lives of her bassoon students. DR. RACHEL L.
