202 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Now retired, Dr. Richard Morris Jordan cultivated a fulfilling career in medical academia, clinical practice and administration, drawing upon over 45 years of experience. From 2007 to 2023, he served as the regional dean at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Concurrently, he was interim chair of the department of medicine from 2017 to 2020. Earlier, he served the East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine as residency program co-director and residency program director between 1998 and 2007. Likewise, he served the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center from 1988 to 2007, culminating in his role as chief of medical services. Dr. Jordan previously operated as an associate professor of medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and a staff endocrinologist at the Wilford Hall USAF Hospital. Specializing in internal medicine and endocrinology, he was recognized as a diplomate of both subspecialties in 1974 and 1977, respectively. He holds a BA from DePauw University and an MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Additionally, he completed an internship at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu and both his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Oregon. Outside of his primary vocation, Dr. Jordan created and led the U.S. National BMX Bicycle Racing Team to victory in two world championships. Dr. Jordan authored “Guest Editorial: Sex Trafficking Overview” in 2023 and has similarly contributed over 60 scholarly articles, abstracts and book chapters on endocrine diseases. For his success, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2023, the Brick and Elm Veterans Recognition for Four Decades of Service to the United States Air Force in 2022, a VA Commendation, and the American flag that flew over the VA Hospital on his last day of service there. Furthermore, in August 2023, the Texas State Legislature commemorated Dr. Jordan’s 16 years of leadership and dedicated public service by flying the Texas state flag over the state capitol.
