205 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition EDUCATION Jenna C. Margiasso has distinguished herself as an educator at George Washington Elementary School in White Plains, New York, since 2019. In this capacity, she works to balance the varying needs of students from a diverse range of ages, backgrounds and special education requirements, teaching a variety of movement and singing activities and seeking opportunities from which her pupils can benefit. In 2023, Ms. Margiasso was incredibly proud to work with a deaf student for the first time, whose successful integration into her teaching program touched her deeply. Her educational philosophy is inspired by Maria von Trapp from “The Sound of Music:” “Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.” Before her work at George Washington Elementary, Ms. Margiasso operated in various educational roles at Farley Elementary School, the Mt. Kisco Country Club Day Camp, the Campus and Community Children’s Center at SUNY Fredonia, and as a private voice instructor. Outside of her primary efforts, she has also performed extensively at a number of operas and musical events throughout her life, including with the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra, the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and the Boulder Bach Festival Singers Quartet, as well as various choirs. Ms. Margiasso initially studied at SUNY Fredonia, from which she earned her undergraduate degrees in vocal performance and music education in 2013. Following this accomplishment, she attained a Master of Music in vocal performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2016. During her academic journey, she benefited from numerous scholarships, and she ultimately received the Scholastic Honor Award for Highest GPA in her chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota in 2016. Though her career has been marked by numerous highlights, Ms. Margiasso is especially proud of the research that went into her master’s thesis, which centered on the vocal techniques used in “Pierrot Lunaire” by Arnold Schoenberg. It was from this research that she developed her own method for teaching the Sprechstimme, which led to her qualifying as a Fulbright grant semi-finalist. JENNA C.
