Ms. Koosmann graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BS in architecture in 2002 and earned an MArch at the University of Washington in 2007, focusing on community design, art, and research. She started her career in Chicago as an interior design architect for Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP, working with world-class clients. In 2007, she joined Seattle's Starling Whitehead & Lux Architects, designing higher education and public buildings. In 2012, she took a visiting design-build instructor post at Foundation University in the Philippines, where she lived and worked for two years. Awarded a Fulbright teaching and research grant in 2015, Ms. Koosmann established Foundation University's Filipino architecture program, showcasing bamboo structures designed and built by students for the community. Her Fulbright research earned a national Environmental Design Research Association Award in 2018. After returning to the U.S., she taught at the University of Arizona and EduMind until 2023 before refocusing on architectural practice in Minneapolis. Since 2012, Ms. Koosmann has maintained A + w o r k s Consulting, a consulting practice merging art and science to serve the public good by elevating communities through participatory design by prioritizing sustainability, wellness and safety. Her community design work has been featured in several publications, and she has spoken at national and international conferences. Ms. Koosmann is a certified Phius Passive House Consultant, sits on the Phius Alliance Minnesota board, and is a member of the AIA and the SEED Network. She continues to pursue an international and cross-cultural focus, empowering communities through design. Anna L. Koosmann is an architect, educator and researcher with over 20 years of expertise in community design and sustainable practices. Inspired by a lifelong interest in architecture, she began drawing houses and floor plans as a child. Her dedication to building as a force for social change and cultural significance was ignited by volunteer work constructing adobe houses with ANNA L.
