SEFERLIS Having harbored a passion for buildings and historical artifacts since the age of five, Clift A. Seferlis has since worked for over 30 years in the field of architectural preservation. Dealing primarily with the restoration and upkeep of buildings and structures with historical, architectural or cultural significance, he has served as a masonry restoration specialist at the Smithsonian Institution since 2006. In this role, he is dedicated to the incremental and ongoing restoration of the organization’s headquarters in the National Mall area of Washington, DC. Likewise known for his stone carving work in and around the capital region, Mr. Seferlis’ accomplishments have been chronicled in Washingtonian Magazine and awarded with a Certificate of Excellence for his performance at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Additionally, he is an accomplished photographer, with his work featured in numerous publications. With his primary focus centered on documenting and exploring the built environment, one of his most notable projects was a collaboration with James M. Goode for a book published in 2010, titled “Washington Sculpture: A Cultural History of Outdoor Sculpture in the Nation's Capital.” Larry Shook is an HVAC expert and entrepreneur who has provided high-quality climate services to clients since 2016 as the owner of Shook Heating and Cooling. After completing high school, Mr. Shook spent two years working as a plumber before accepting a manufacturing position with Ford Motor Company. In 2008, he took a buyout to leave Ford and returned to school, finishing a ten-month vocational program in heating and cooling. Opening Shook Heating and Cooling was the culmination of Mr. Shook’s lifelong dream of becoming a business owner, and he has become recognized as a pillar of integrity and quality in the area business community. Offering residential and commercial services, the company has grown to a staff of four full-time technicians and a fleet of five trucks, and he looks forward to continuing its expansion and presence in the community. He credits his success to his drive to achieve his personal best and advises other would-be entrepreneurs to maintain an open mind, cultivate strong relationships, and maintain a positive attitude.
