89 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT For over 50 years, Regge Life has brought global stories to American and international audiences through film and television. Since 2011, he has served as the senior distinguished director in residence in the department of visual and media arts at Emerson College. He has also taught master classes at universities around the world, including the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, the London College of Communication, the Annapurna College of Film and Media, and the Communications University of China. Additionally, he is the executive director of Global Film Network Inc., where he produces and directs films alongside like-minded creatives. As a film and television professional, Mr. Life has served on many notable projects, including Sesame Street and his long-form documentaries, which have aired on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and on NHK in Japan and the United Kingdom. In 2011, his film “Reason to Hope” received the award for Best Black Film at the 26th Black International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany. He also received the Cine Golden Eagle for “Doubles” in 1996, the 1989 Philadelphia International Film Festival’s Gold Award for “Reunion” featuring Denzel Washington, and numerous Emmy Award nominations. Highly qualified and well-studied, Mr. Life holds an MFA in directing for theater and film from New York University and two degrees from Tufts University — a BA in drama and a BA in sociology. Furthermore, in 1973, he earned a post-graduate diploma in theater arts from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Mr. Life remains constantly involved in filmmaking projects and the film industry at large. He is currently preparing a new feature film based on a noted American author, and he plans to revisit the lessons from his own book, “Becoming an Actor’s Director: Directing Actors for Film and Television,” via master classes at international film schools. Accounting for his achievements, he is proud of his work in screenwriting, producing and directing numerous films, such as “Cocktail Party” in 2015, “Live Your Dream: The Taylor Anderson Story” in 2011, and “Struggle and Success: The African American Experience in Japan” in 1993.
