93 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT After operating as the director of special projects at the Committee for Economic Development (CED) and later as the executive director of The Creative Coalition (TCC), Ms. O’Connell decided to build her own consultancy business. Following her creative drive, she worked on producing an independent film in Ireland. In 2003, she gathered her work under Green Topaz Productions LLC, where she now serves as president. Utilizing a wealth of fruitful industry and public connections, she works with clients around the world; most recently, she has aided in political and policybased projects in Washington, D.C. At CED and TCC, Ms. O’Connell created high-profile debate events between powerful clashing voices on critical issues, ranging from abortion to free speech. In this capacity, she worked directly with national decision-makers, including Hillary Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Dick Cheney. For one of her most satisfying and difficult ventures, she teamed with a leading bank executive to introduce transformative law enforcement policies to the civic and business leadership of New Orleans. Well-regarded for her creative output, Ms. O’Connell co-produced Broadway’s “Seconding the First,” an acclaimed show in support of the First Amendment, with participants including Robin Williams, Paul Newman, Chuck D and censored teachers from around the United States. She is also an award-winning short story and policy writer, and she is currently working on her first full-length book. Her work as an educator includes rehabilitative theatre workshops on Rikers Island, high school classes in history and art appreciation, and the creation of her own sought-after workshops in culture coaching and U.S. business practices for international executives. Ms. O’Connell holds a BA with honors in history and an MA in educational theater and film. As a multifaceted writer, policy provocateur, educator, strategic consultant and executive coach, Sharon O’Connell sees her role in the worlds of business, policy and the arts as a catalyst for genuine and substantial progressive change.
