Hoffman has cultivated diverse success in the aviation, cybersecurity and defense sectors. He began his professional journey as an ROTC cadet at the University of Maryland, where he earned a BS in mathematics, physical science and engineering in 1979. After graduating, he was commissioned to the United States Air Force, launching a 20-year active-duty military career. Mr. Hofmann started as a flight instructor and spent four years training as a pilot before making the decision to re-enlist as an instructor. As a highperforming pilot recognized for his abilities in the field, he chose to specialize in special operations and rescue helicopter missions and was stationed in Alaska during the Cold War, leading missions credited with saving nearly 30 lives. While in the Air Force, Mr. Hofmann earned an MS in aviation management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In 1988, he transitioned from flying helicopters to training pilots to operate C-5 Galaxy transport aircraft in strategic combat missions during Operation Desert Storm. During the 1990s, Mr. Hofmann joined the United States Transportation Command as an air mission planner for military operations in Bosnia and later served as the commander of the 135-member air mobility test squadron. He retired from the Air Force in 2000 and was recalled to service in the United States Air Force Reserves from 2005 until 2009 by an executive order from President George W. Bush. During his second period of service, Mr. Hofmann rose to the rank of colonel, overseeing leadership, mission planning and air operations centers, in addition to acting as a liaison between senior leaders at the Pentagon and Scott Air Force Base. He ultimately became the chief information officer for the Air Force Reserve Command. While serving in the military, Mr. Hofmann simultaneously found considerable professional success, spending fifteen years with the Tanker Airlift Control Center. He created ScheduLogics LLC in 2005, marking his first entrepreneurial venture, and remained the company’s chief executive officer until 2019. Additionally, he ran a small aircraft rental business with his wife for more than a decade.
