To commemorate his accomplishments, he received numerous accolades, including certificates of recognition from professional audit organizations and the Honolulu City Council, as well as a Distinguished Local Government Leaders Award from the Association of Government Accountants in 2016. Likewise, he received numerous national awards for his audit reports. Mr. Young also worked in Washington, DC, where he broadened his horizons and gained an insider’s perspective into how the federal government functions. In the coming years, he hopes to continue his service on behalf of local institutions, including as a member of the board of directors for the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation. Furthermore, he aspires to remain active in his educational roles, through which the next generation can learn from his example. Edwin S. W. Young has distinguished himself through a lengthy career in public service, during which time he has worked as an auditor for several government organizations. Now retired from full-time work, he serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii, where he teaches students government auditing and accounting. Born and raised in Hawaii, Mr. Young studied at the University of Hawaii, earning a BA in 1966. He served on active duty as a member of the United States Air Force from 1966 until 1987, during which time he was stationed abroad in Korea and Germany. He retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1987 after serving several years in the Hawaii Air National Guard, the Air Force Reserves, and working for the Air Force Audit Agency and the Naval Audit Service. He graduated from the University of Utah with an MBA and from the University of Southern California (USC) with a master’s degree in Information Technology. Mr. Young later started his auditing career with the U.S. General Accounting Office, which offered a wealth of experiences. He would improve operations at many government EDWIN S. W.
