CURTIS BRYAN II, MD MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF CARDIOVASCULAR SERVICES Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Tierra Verde, FL A noted expert in complex cardiac surgery and valve repair, F. Curtis Bryan II, MD, has earned distinction as the medical director of cardiovascular services for the West Florida Division of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg since 2022. In this capacity, he provides oversight for all cardiac services and personally strives to modernize the workplace culture at the hospital. Leveraging more than 35 years of experience — during which time he has accrued a wealth of knowledge in the areas of heart valve replacement, cardiac mass removal, surgical intervention for electrical heart disorders, and coronary bypass grafting — Dr. Bryan also serves as the chief of the department of surgery. Dr. Bryan initially began his career at Forsyth Medical Center in Winstom-Salem, North Carolina, in 1997. Several years later, he joined the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he held several high-profile positions, including as chief of surgery, secretary-treasurer and chief of staff, from 2005 until 2011. Following this period, he found success in numerous roles of medical leadership at HCA West Florida, Northside Hospital and Cardiac Surgical Associates LLP between 2013 and 2019. Dr. Bryan subsequently worked with the AdventHealth Medical Group Cardiovascular Surgery at Orlando from 2019 to 2022, during which time he rose from an attending staff surgeon to the medical director of clinical support and cardiovascular care. Before embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Bryan studied aerospace science and neurobiology at Tennessee State University and Harvard University, respectively. He subsequently earned a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, at the Vanderbilt University School of Arts and Sciences in 1984. Proceeding to the Emory University School of Medicine, he attained a Doctor of Medicine, cum laude, in 1988 and undertook both a residency in general surgery and in cardiothoracic surgery. At the Emory University Affiliated Hospitals, he notably rose to the position of chief resident in both disciplines, and he was recognized as a fellow in cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Bryan was recently recognized as a Scholar in Surgical Leadership by the Harvard Medical School in 2019.
