Dr. Somiari first studied at Rivers State University in Nigeria, graduating with a BS in microbiology in 1984. Following this accomplishment, he earned an MS at Obafemi Awolowo University in 1989. He concluded his academic efforts at the Lodz University of Technology, where he achieved a PhD in technical biochemistry and molecular biology in 1997. Dr. Somiari is particularly proud to have made significant contributions to biomedical research, biobanking, biomarker discovery, DNA and protein technology, and biocatalysis in non-conventional media and forensics. Looking toward the future, he aspires to expand the availability of biomedical research tools throughout the world, with an eye toward reaching remote countries with limited resources. He also hopes to continue supporting economic development in his local community. Hailing from over four decades of experience in the scientific community, Dr. Richard Idem Somiari has distinguished himself as the president, chief scientific officer and scientific director of the DNA and protein forensic program at Integrated Technologies & Services International. Founded in 2004, the firm specializes in developing and manufacturing analysis kits for use in cancer and complex disease research. Outside of this role, Dr. Somiari also serves as an adjunct professor at both Duquesne University and the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences. He also consults regularly as a forensic expert with the Ministry of Justice in Lagos State Nigeria, and at the Defense Headquarters of Nigeria. Well-regarded for his accomplishments, Dr. Somiari was hailed by the U.S. Small Business Administration as the Region III and Western Pennsylvania Small Business Exporter of the Year in 2012. Known for his scholarly prowess as well, he has contributed several peerreviewed articles to a number of relevant scientific journals and served on the editorial board of such publications as ISRN Biotechnology and the Human Genomics and Proteomics Journal.
