708 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT Drawing on several decades of experience, Robert N. Barnette Jr. is a proven leader in the field of public administration. Specializing in human resources and business mitigation, he has served as the president of the Virginia State Conference NAACP since 2018. In his leadership role, Mr. Barnette works alongside the organization’s general counsel to manage legal issues impacting groups of individuals in the region. Furthermore, he plans the yearly spate conference and oversees quarterly meetings with the executive committee — during which he and his colleagues discuss important events in their community. Adjacent to his primary duties, Mr. Barnette also recently joined the Employer Support of the Guard (ESGR) and Reserve as a spokesperson in 2022. Much of his work in this position involves advocating for benefits for members of the United States military, particularly the National Guard and Reserve forces. A decorated veteran himself, Mr. Barnette honorably served in the United States Air Force for 32 years. He also operated within the Virginia Air National Guard, and he became a state command chief master sergeant in 2003. To commemorate his military achievements, he was honored in 2022 with the Stainless Steel Service Award from the ESGR and a Meritorious Service Award from the Angus Auxiliary. In his other civic-minded efforts, Mr. Barnette is a former president, vice president and political action chair of Hanover County, Virginia. Likewise, he is a past chairman of the Hanover Democratic Committee and the board of the Hanover Department of Social Services. Likewise, he is well-regarded for his participation with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Barnette pursued a formal education, ultimately achieving a Master of Science in general administration at Central Michigan University. Attributing his success to his military training and disciplined mindset, he is notably proud to have renamed two Confederate-named schools in his county.
