714 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT Benjamin Davey has dedicated more than 15 years to serving families, children and others in need throughout New Jersey as a licensed clinical social worker. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY New Paltz and a Master of Social Work in psychology from Fordham University. Beginning in 2007, he initially specialized in investigating cases of abuse and neglect before transferring to a role in state family courts. Since 2017, Mr. Davey has utilized his expertise in a resource development specialist role, acting as a community representative and liaison, building stakeholder and client relationships, and providing outreach to ensure that families have access to state services. In 2019, Mr. Davey founded Benny’s Bodega, a community resource pioneering support for A.L.I.C.E. (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) senior citizens and veterans by offering them a place to “shop” free of charge for basic need items (food, clothing, cleaning, hygiene and pet supplies). Bridging the gap in state-funded service coverage, the bodega operates on community donations and corporate partnerships with local retailers and no government assistance. It has expanded from its origins as a part-time project run in Mr. Davey’s cubicle to a freestanding location serving more than 1,700 monthly clients. Benny’s Bodega was voted as the Nonprofit of the Year in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and it has received awards from the Daughters of the American Revolution and local Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Davey has similarly been recognized for his role in bringing its mission to life. In the coming years, Mr. Davey plans to build support for expanding Benny’s Bodega to other communities, with the eventual goal of opening more than 150 bodegas in strategic locations around the country. Outside his work with Benny’s Bodega, he is a longtime Rotarian and volunteer basketball coach for Newton High School. Mr. Davey credits his success to the ongoing support and guidance of his wife and family, and he is grateful for the opportunity to use his skills to create lasting and positive change for others.
