Before entering the human services field, she enjoyed nearly two decades of success in administrative work. She graduated from secretarial school in 1974 and worked as an administrative assistant across several industries. In 1994, after her employer suddenly shut down, Ms. Hunt-Washington decided to pursue postsecondary education, and in 1997, she earned a bachelor’s degree in human services from Metropolitan College of New York. After working with elderly clients in a senior center during her internship, she decided to focus her career on social work, and in 2002, she was awarded a Master of Social Work from New York University. Ms. Hunt-Washington began her social work career with Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York, where she spent four years. In 2010, she joined Long Island Consultation Center as a licensed clinical social worker therapist, working concurrently with a New York-based family shelter for several years. In 2023, Ms. Hunt-Washington achieved her dream of opening her own practice, where she works with families and adult and adolescent clients five days a week. In addition to her clinical practice, Ms. Hunt-Washington is a volunteer for area hospitals, the Missionary Society, and her church’s community outreach initiatives. She continues to pursue professional development opportunities, including training for eating disorder interventions and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the SWEET Institute. She attributes her success to the empathy she developed throughout her personal and academic journeys and is proud to help her clients navigate challenges and move toward personal growth.
