726 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT Long dedicated to the cause of environmentalism, David Misfeldt draws on more than 20 years of nonprofit experience in his most recent role as a board director at the Alberta Turfgrass Research Foundation (ATRF). Established in order to implement applied research and promote industry knowledge via environmentally sustainable methods of turfgrass management, the nonprofit organization seeks to serve as an intermediary between the industry and the research sector dedicated to the subject, as well as a fundraiser for future studies. In addition to his work at the ATRF, Mr. Misfeldt cares for over 1,000 acres of land for the city of Calgary, and he previously served as a founding board member of Bee City Canada, a nonprofit conservation organization that works to protect Canada’s pollinators. His efforts notably yielded a naturalization project that has come to include two academic institutions, as well as a bee boulevard and the discovery of an endangered bee population in 2018. For the latter accomplishment, Mr. Misfeldt was featured in an article by CBC Radio and recognized by the director general of Environment and Climate Change Canada. To remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Misfeldt maintains his affiliation with the Alberta Native Plant Council. He is also a member of the Friends of Fish Creek, a provincial park society whose mission is to cultivate knowledge of Fish Creek’s cultural significance and restore its natural salmon habitat. Other civic endeavors to his credit include his support for charities by running in various marathons and half-marathons. Mr. Misfeldt first studied business administration and management at the University of Calgary, from which he earned an associate’s degree. He would later go on to serve as the superintendent of a golf course before his pivot to the nonprofit sector. In accounting for his achievements, he attributes his success to his parents, who gave him the freedom to learn at his own pace and discover his passion in life. Looking toward the future, Mr. Misfeldt hopes to visit more communities and work to improve local grass with more sustainable native saltgrasses.
