Canawati wields over 25 years of experience in her role as an associate director of finance policy and contract readiness at the International Rescue Committee. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to fundraising on behalf of refugees throughout the world. Demonstrating proficiency in finance, grant management and accounting, she ensures that funds are spent according to the wishes of the organization’s donors. Ms. Canawati first joined International Rescue in 2022, having previously contributed to operations at a number of other nonprofits, including Momentum 2A, Jhpiego, Catholic Relief Services and Corus International. In light of her accomplishments, she is particularly proud to have learned the value of working with others and that every problem comes with its own solution. Originally from Palestine, Ms. Canawati studied business administration and accounting at Bethlehem University and ultimately achieved an MA in regional development, planning and management at Technical University Dortmund. Her graduate-level research was notably published in libraries throughout the Philippines, where she spent a year studying as part of her master’s program. Established in the early 2010s to fight on behalf of students for high-quality, debt-free public education, PHENOM seeks to promote progressive legislation, collaborate with members of academia and combat budget cuts to local campuses. Well-regarded for her reputation as a “warrior organizer,” Ms. Depina has truly distinguished herself through her work as an advocate in the fight for equality. Having previously worked in the marketing sector for eight years, Ms. Depina became involved in her current profession hoping to serve as an inspiration to others. Having also overcome numerous challenges throughout her vocational journey, she aspires to prove that those living with disabilities and trauma can change the world for the better. In honor of her accomplishments, she was given a citation by former Governor Charlie Baker. Ms. Depina attributes her success to her faith, and in the coming years, she aims to continue battling for those whose rights have been infringed upon.
