743 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT FOUNDER, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD The Shaka Franklin Foundation for Youth Denver, CO HOUSING CASE MANAGER St. Patrick Center Saint Louis, MO LES FRANKLIN Les Franklin has worked to increase awareness of youth mental health concerns and support suicide prevention initiatives through The Shaka Franklin Foundation for Youth, founded in 1990. He created his foundation in honor of his 16-year-old son, Shaka Franklin, to address the mental health awareness causes for Colorado youth and provide resources for peers, parents and communities. By providing appropriate education and support to those in need, Mr. Franklin hopes to empower teens to speak out about mental and emotional health and seek treatment in times of crisis. The foundation has established scholarship fund endowments for students at the University of Colorado Denver, the University of Denver and Colorado State University. Looking ahead, Mr. Franklin plans to continue his work with his foundation to create new opportunities and build on past programming, such as its 1997 program Shaka Inner City Edge (ICE), which provided local hockey players with equipment and financial support. Mr. Franklin is the author of a memoir, “Love, Les,” which he hopes can be a source of support and solidarity for others affected by suicide. Long motivated to help others, Rachel L. Gorin serves as a housing case manager at the St. Patrick Center, a nonprofit organization established to combat homelessness in St. Louis, Missouri. She also helps clients apply for government assistance and facilitates peer empowerment groups for them and agency staffers. Well-regarded for her accomplishments, Ms. Gorin was lauded as the Employee of the Month in 2022. Ms. Gorin studied at Maryville University of Saint Louis, where she earned a BA in English language and literature, cum laude, in 2014. To support her career efforts, Ms. Gorin earned an MSW at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2021. RACHEL L. GORIN, LMSW
