In addition to his work at Lindenwood University, Dr. Hutson is an expert in residence at CrowdDoing’s regenerative artificial intelligence laboratory and an independent consultant for the Ithaca Research Group. He has been named to numerous lists of visionaries and tech-industry leaders to watch and hopes to drive social change by merging cutting-edge technologies with arts, culture, and education. In the coming years, he looks forward to expanding his focus to include developing new ways to support and embrace neurodiversity and neuroscience research. Dr. James L. Hutson is an educator, administrator, and artificial and extended reality technology expert currently creating change as a professor and lead XR disruptor at Lindenwood University. An advocate for exploring emerging technologies as a pathway for social equity, he spearheaded the creation of Lindenwood University’s Immersive Arts and Culture Hub and XR Gaming Lab and has pushed for the creation and adoption of innovative educational technologies building on extended reality and generative AI. Dr. Hutson holds a Doctor of Philosophy in art history and archaeology from the University of Maryland, dual Master of Arts degrees in game design and leadership from Lindenwood University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in artificial intelligence from Capitol Technology University. Merging his backgrounds in the arts and STEM, he joined Lindenwood University as chair of the art history department and assistant dean of graduate and online programs in 2010.
