Outside of his work in aviation, Mr. Maki is active in community advocacy and charitable outreach projects, including the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Cape Abilities, and a local drug and alcohol recovery organization providing participants with career skills training and support. Mr. Maki finds success in doing what he loves, and he looks forward to continuing to excel and grow in his field for years to come. He credits his professional trajectory to the support and example of the many pilots and teachers who helped him along the way. As a part of his commitment to his career, he plans to increase his volunteer commitments and pursue a doctoral degree in leadership in the coming years. For almost 25 years, Nathan E. Maki has been a pilot, trainer and aviation industry leader. His passion for airplanes developed at the age of eight, when his uncle took him to an air show, and he began flying after asking for lessons for his 12th birthday. He graduated with high honors from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in aviation management in 2000 and began his career with an internship for Trans World Airlines based out of St. Louis. Throughout his career, Mr. Maki has flown with carriers such as Trans States Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Since 2013, he has been a pilot for United Airlines, where he currently serves as a line check pilot and trainer for junior employees. As a line check pilot, Mr. Maki helps develop and certify new pilots and co-pilots and oversees flight deck staff, ensuring compliance with internal and federal safety and operations protocols. Mr. Maki is passionate about creating opportunities for others to enter the aviation industry, and he has toured high schools nationwide speaking to students about career development and flying.
