234 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. Katie Wilwohl is a full professor of biology at Bethel University of Tennessee, where she has taught and researched since 2013. Passionate about encouraging curiosity about life sciences and a lifelong learning ethos, she is active in student advising and career development programs in addition to teaching a full slate of courses in microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, and research methods. Raised by a family with a strong tradition of careers in education, her interest in academia began in high school, and she achieved a PhD in molecular biology and genetics at Temple University in 1997. Dr. Wilwohl began teaching in the 1990s and became an adjunct professor at Camden Community College in 1999. Recognizing that she felt most able to connect with students and make an impact on them at the college level, she continued with an adjunct role at Middlesex Community College and a visiting faculty spot at West Chester University before accepting an associate professor position at Clarke University in 2002. Dr. Wilwohl continued to teach biology at Clarke University until 2012, departing to move into her current position. Throughout her career, Dr. Wilwohl has been noted for her focus on relationship-building and helping students develop communityminded career paths, and she is a two-time Educator of the Year. She is proud to have led more than a dozen of her students to pursue careers in secondary education and is a volunteer educator for Gifted Gabber, an academic coaching program for high school students. In the coming years, Dr. Wilwohl hopes to expand her focus to include work in medical communications consulting while continuing to teach and contract with educational publishers and schools.
