236 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. Jeffrey M. Yarus, a renowned expert in applied geostatistics with multiple patents to his credit, has made significant contributions as a research professor at Case Western Reserve University since 2020. His teaching is enriched by a wealth of experience in academia and the petroleum industry. Dr. Yarus began his career in 1978 as an exploration and production geologist at Amoco Production Co. He has since worked in key positions at Marathon Oil, GeoGraphix, Geomath Inc., Smedvig Technologies, Diversified Resources Ltd. and Halliburton Oil Field Services. At Halliburton, Mr. Yarus was noted for his roles as a senior manager and technology fellow, which highlighted his deep expertise in geostatistics. Since joining Case Western Reserve University, he has expanded his research to cover petroleum geostatistics and delve into geothermal and environmental processes, further showcasing the breadth of his interests and adaptability in his field. Well-regarded for his scholarly output, Dr. Yarus has authored influential papers for the Journal of Sedimentary Petrology, the Journal of Petroleum Technology and the Leading Edge. He also published the first edited volume of applied geostatistics for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the inaugural book chapter on the subject for the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Handbook. His expertise has made him a highly sought-after speaker at prestigious conferences, including the Department of Energy’s CarbonX Summit and the Unconventional Resource Technology Energy Conference. Furthermore, his leadership has been evident in his chairing roles for several committees within the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Dr. Yarus attributes his success to his skill in elucidating complex statistical and geostatistical topics. In 2016, he received the George Matheron Lecture Award from the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences. Looking ahead, he plans to retire from his position at Case Western Reserve University, aiming to spend more time with his family. This transition signifies the close of a distinguished career dedicated to advancing applied geostatistics and mentoring emerging geoscientists. JEFFREY M.
