238 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Leveraging nearly two decades of experience, Sherry P. Young has distinguished herself as an educator at the Alief Independent School District. Having coached students with autism and other behavioral disorders since 2005, she specializes in mathematics intervention, classroom support and pre-kindergarten education. Well-regarded for her accomplishments as an educator, Ms. Young was hailed as the Teacher of the Year for 2015, and she has received several academic grants and scholarships through the Association of Texas Professional Educators. She initially studied education at Tarleton State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1994. Following this accomplishment, she went on to receive a Master of Science in education curriculum at the University of Phoenix in 2008. Ms. Young became interested in her field following an experience in high school, where she defended a student with Down syndrome against bullies. To prevent others from dealing with similar abuse, she has dedicated her life to teaching students who require unique academic approaches. Of all her achievements, Ms. Young considers her most notable to be successfully implementing an appropriate intervention program for a child exhibiting aggressive behavior toward peers and staff. Through her intervention, the child’s behavior was addressed, and all parties involved enjoyed a peaceful resolution. Over the course of her career, Ms. Young has received many awards and accolades, including an educational grant and scholarship from the Association of Texas Professional Educators and the Perfect Attendance Award from Petrosky Elementary School. In addition, the elementary school named her Teacher of the Year in 2014 and 2015 and gifted her the Donors Choose Grants in 2014 and 2016. Accounting for her success, Ms. Young largely credits her direct administrators, who have supported her without fail throughout her professional journey. Looking to the future, she aspires to enter retirement within the next several years, but she remains open to a possible administrative role, such as an instructional coordinator or reading facilitator.
