Drawing on over 20 years of experience in academia, Wendy Elmore began her career as an after-school reading teacher for the Rosedale Union School District. Later transitioning to the local high school district, she worked closely with students with behavioral issues. Her career then pivoted when she was asked to open a public charter school in Shafter, California, as its special education coordinator. In this role, Ms. Elmore created a program for students with special needs in the generation education setting, with both general and special education teachers working together to help students succeed. Among her responsibilities, she has led and trained a team of more than 15 special education staffers, including teachers and individual aides. Among her accomplishments, Ms. Elmore is proud to have once been named as Teacher of the Year. Looking to the future, she aspires to consult for another charter school that is set to open in the downtown area of Shafter. Furthermore, she looks forward to a well-deserved retirement, though she hopes to ensure that the Grow Academy is well-established prior to her departure. WENDY ELMORE
