Fresno, CA Dr. Marshall Flam celebrates 40 years of success as a physician, educator and administrator. He began his career as a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earning a bachelor’s degree in life sciences and molecular biology. He ultimately achieved an MD at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Flam completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the NYU Division of Bellevue Hospital in New York, as well as a residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Medical Center, followed by fellowships in hematology at the University of Utah and in clinical oncology at the Sidney Farber Cancer Institute and the Peter BentBrigham Hospital. Dr. Flam enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as chief of the division of hematology and oncology for the United States Air Force Regional Hospital at the Sheppard Air Force Base from 1971 to 1973. While in the role, he rose to the rank of major. His involvement with the Air Force included working as a consultant to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as an instructor to astronauts as a part of Project Skylab, the administration’s first effort to build a space station orbiting Earth. In 1974, he joined the Hematology and Oncology Medical Group of Fresno Inc. and remained with the group as the corporate president and director of the laboratory until his retirement in 2014. He became an associate clinical professor at the University of California School of Medicine in 1989 and continues to teach. He considers education to be one of the best ways to ensure the success of the next generation of professionals. Dr. Flam served on the board of directors for the Association of Northern California Oncologists and the Advisory Board of Cancer Registry of Central California. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Cancer Chemotherapy and the American Society of Hematology. Furthermore, he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). In recognition of his contributions to the field, he has been presented with numerous awards,
