236 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine FINANCE AND INSURANCE Dr. Ron Chu is well-regarded as a leader and innovator in finance. He originally joined the Toyota Motor Credit Corporation in 2002 and served in many leadership roles for the company. As the chief tax officer, he saved the company over $3 billion and streamlined compliance and audits. Likewise, as the chief accounting officer, he improved accounting principles, leading to 45 consecutive quarters without restatements, adjustments or controls deficiencies. While he was the head of finance and accounting, the company achieved record revenue and profit, and he managed internal controls for several years. After retiring in 2023, Dr. Chu became the chair of the Toyota Motor Credit Corporation audit committee, where he remains committed to upholding company values and making a positive impact. He also serves on the board of directors of the North Texas chapter of the NACD. Originally from China, he earned a BA at East China Normal University and an MA at Tongji University. After immigrating to the United States, he continued his education at Portland State University, earning a master’s degree in taxation. He also holds a PhD from the University of Bonn in Germany. She attended Amherst College, where she received a BA in history in 1980 before earning a JD at New York University in 1983. Beginning her career as an attorney at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, she built her legal expertise over nearly a decade. Since 1992, she has served as a managing director and associate general counsel for JPMorgan Chase & Co., overseeing the global investment banking division and managing 80 people across the world. Ms. Gardner is proud of her involvement in the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiative for JPMorgan Chase & Co., as well as the excellent lawyers she has mentored over the years. She attributes her success to good judgment, practicality and expert people skills, which have allowed her to deliver difficult or nuanced answers in palatable ways. Moving forward, Ms. Gardner is building a succession plan to prepare for her eventual retirement.
