249 Millennium - Eighteenth Edition GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY David F. Lucier is a proud United States Army veteran who has dedicated the last 10 years to his work as the president and chief executive officer of the Arizona Veterans & Military Leadership Alliance. He began his active-duty career in the Army Special Forces, serving in Vietnam for three years. After returning to the United States, he attended Arizona State University, earning a BS in political science in 1974. Mr. Lucier has remained involved with the United States military throughout his career, working as a private military contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense during operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He spent two years as a security consultant for Absolute Security Agency before contracting on a combined joint special operations task force again in 2008. Upon returning from Afghanistan, Mr. Lucier noticed the lack of resources and structures available to help veterans successfully readjust to civilian life. The Arizona Veterans & Military Leadership Alliance was founded in 2012 as a response to Mr. Lucier’s observations, with a goal of making Arizona a model of veteran support in education, health care and job training. He has gone on to serve on the City of Mesa Veterans Task Force and as an advisor to Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, Congressional representatives Greg Stanton and Ruben Gallego, Senator Mark Kelly, and the Phoenix Veterans Administration Medical Center. Mr. Lucier credits his success to his experience in the armed services and his experience living and working with veterans of several conflicts, including his parents, who are both World War II veterans. In recognition of his work for the veteran community, Mr. Lucier has been inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame. He is proud to be a voice for those he serves and an advocate for change at the community level. Mr. Lucier looks forward to continuing his work with the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame and the Arizona Veterans & Military Leadership Alliance. He has also been elected to a seat on the Tempe City Council. DAVID F. LUCIER PRESIDENT, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Arizona Veterans & Military Leadership Alliance Tempe, AZ
