266 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Robert A. Arno is a nurse anesthetist with 15 years in nursing and a decade of advanced practice in anesthesia. Specializing in anesthesia for complex cardiac procedures, he is currently affiliated with the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut. He earned a BSN at Mount Saint Mary College in 2009 and an MSN at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2015. Mr. Arno’s interest in health care began at the age of 16, when he started working as a volunteer firefighter. Early in his volunteer career, he was at the site of a catastrophic vehicle accident, where he met a flight nurse whose actions inspired him to pursue a similar path. Following that experience, he began his pursuits of a degree in nursing. In his first professional role, he was an ICU registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York. During that time, he was involved in a challenging organ procurement, and the encouragement of an anesthesiologist led him to explore anesthesia. Since his graduation in 2015, Mr. Arno has been a CRNA working as both part of private anesthesia groups and in independent practice. In 2020, during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Arno found himself working six days a week for over two months between NYP-Columbia and Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn. He describes it as a life-changing, harrowing experience, the likes of which he hopes to never see again. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr. Arno has operated as a clinical coordinator for Quinnipiac University and Columbia University, serving as a clinical preceptor for student nurse anesthetists completing their practicum experience. He remains active as a volunteer firefighter and considers his dual commitments to clinical nursing and emergency services to be core to his professional identity. In the coming years, he plans to explore opportunities as an expert witness and consultant, and he looks forward to learning more about the intersection of his work as a provider and the role his experience can play in a court of law.
