She continued her studies at Cleveland State University, completing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling in 2013 and a PhD in counseling psychology in 2018. In addition to her work with the Sentinel Foundation and A Poklar Ponders, Dr. Poklar has served as a clinical coordinator for The Behavioral Wellness Group since 2018. She has taught as an adjunct professor at Cleveland State University and Northeast Ohio Medical University. Moving forward, Dr. Poklar sees herself continuing to effect systemic change by implementing school-based programs. Currently, she is working with partners in Uganda to establish a durable social work framework for long-term case management and conducting a pilot study with United States-based departments of child and family services to evaluate long-term foster placement outcomes in the hopes of reforming the existing system. Dr. Ashley Poklar aims to implement sustainable, ongoing programs to address child exploitation and sexual abuse. In 2023, she was named clinical director of the Sentinel Foundation, an organization dedicated to combating child sex trafficking and exploitation, where her work focuses on building organizational partnerships to better execute their mission. Recognizing the complexity of addressing abuse and exploitation, the foundation employs a purposeful, multifaceted approach that emphasizes collaboration and a client-centered philosophy. Dr. Poklar is passionate about supporting young people in various ways, including offering parenting training and coaching, school programming and evaluation and support for community agencies. In 2022, she founded A Poklar Ponders, a homeschooling program that reviews materials and experiences and consults with students, their families, and schools on mental and emotional wellness. The organization bridges the gap between psychology and education, providing resources to overcome common challenges.
