LAWYER Hanna and Morton LLP Los Angeles, CA Edward Shield Renwick, Esq., is an attorney with more than 65 years of expertise in oil, gas and energy industry practice. A naturally communicative and analytical child, he took an interest in the legal profession at a young age and was inspired to follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle in pursuing a career in the field. Mr. Renwick attended Stanford University, graduating with a pre-law Bachelor of Arts in 1956 and earning a Bachelor of Laws in 1958. After graduating from law school, he entered the U.S. Army, where he would spend the next seven years as a reservist, rising to the rank of Captain before concluding his service in 1966. In 1958, Mr. Renwick began his legal career as an associate of Hanna and Morton LLP, and in 1964 he became a partner at the firm. His practice specializes in energy industry litigation, including oil and gas rights, geothermal and renewable energy, and natural resources extraction. In addition to his work with Hanna and Morton LLP, Mr. Renwick has served as independent counsel to large energy companies throughout California. Throughout his career, he has handled land, air and groundwater contamination cases and settled land use, zoning and contract dispute claims, among other related concerns. Mr. Renwick has been involved in many large-scale cases at the state and federal level, and he has been sworn in to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, and Central California districts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Renwick’s arguments have included new case law applications involving partnership accounting disputes, antitrust legislation, bank fraud, patent proceeds disputes, examinations of the scope of the California Environmental Quality Act and more. He has played a pivotal role in setting precedents for a broad range of energy industry issues. As an expert in his specialty, Mr. Renwick has written articles for journals, including the Texas Wesleyan Law Review and the Texas A&M Law Review, and is the author of “Quicker, Better Cheaper: How to Save Litigation Costs and Get Better Results by Shortening the Litigation Cycle,” and “Back to
