His retention of his police commission, following more than 51 years dedicated to law enforcement, exemplifies his relentless passion and steadfast commitment to ensuring safety and security. After being appointed to the Cleveland Police Department in 1973, Anthony H. Jackson climbed the ranks of law enforcement, beginning as a patrolman before transitioning into specialized units. He made significant contributions to the department’s strike force, where he played a key role in apprehending people who have committed serious felonies. As a lieutenant, he served the sixth district for a year before being appointed as the commander of the fifth district, overseeing 220 personnel. In 1994, Mr. Jackson retired from the force at the rank of commander. His expertise attracted the attention of the Cuyahoga Metro Housing Authority, who offered him the chief of police position, where he supervised a team of 245 personnel, including security and civilian staff. During his tenure, he spearheaded the department’s move to a state-of-the-art police headquarters and earned numerous awards and accolades from the United States Senate, Congress and various community organizations. After 12 years of service, he retired and joined Cuyahoga Community College as interim director of the Public Safety Institute, where he secured $11 million in funding to revamp existing properties into a cutting-edge regional training facility.
