247 Millennium - Eighteenth Edition GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY LeAnne Rachelle Johnson, CDFM-A, is a risk management expert and financial analyst who has spent nearly 20 years in logistics with the United States Navy. Since 2021, she has been the director of the Navy’s internal control program, where she oversees 30 headquarters commands and their subordinates and manages compliance with federal enterprise risk management requirements. Her work includes building internal control programs and policies and helping to identify and mitigate risks and optimize operations. Following her family’s strong tradition of military service, Ms. Johnson naturally gravitated toward a career in the U.S. Navy. She began working for the Department of Justice as a teen and went on to earn a BS in accounting at Strayer University in 2006, becoming the first college graduate in her family. She continued her education at DeVry University, achieving an MPA in 2010, and completed an additional diploma in chief financial officer leadership through the National Defense University. Currently, she is working toward a PhD in strategic leadership at Liberty University. After briefly working in the private sector, Ms. Johnson joined the Navy’s financial management trainee program in 2007 and became an analyst for the naval supply systems command in 2009. She was named deputy comptroller for the naval health clinic at Quantico the following year and rose to become deputy director of finance for the Office of Financial Operations of the Department of Veterans Affairs. In 2014, she became a program manager for the Navy Office of Financial Operations’ evaluation prioritization remediation program, where she remained for two years before becoming a field support activity financial improvement and audit readiness manager. Throughout her career, Ms. Johnson has received numerous awards for her work, including a 2020 Department of Defense Spirit of Service Award and a 2012 Team Award for process improvement from the Navy Bureau of Medicine. She credits her success to the support of her family and is proud to be a voice for minority women in executive leadership.
