He received his education from Johns Hopkins University, earning a BA in comparative literature and economics in 1963 and an MA in comparative languages and literature the following year. He continued his studies at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and completed an MA in international relations and international economics in 1966. Three years later, he graduated from Princeton University with a PhD in political economy. After graduating from Princeton University, Mr. Morse joined the faculty as an assistant professor. During the Middle Eastern oil embargo, he conducted extensive research into its sociopolitical causes and whether any existing models had predicted the event. Intrigued by the retrospective view and momentum-based analysis conducted by others, he sought discontinuities and dismissed momentum in his investigations, leading him to his current field of expertise. As a senior advisor at Hartree Partners, Mr. Morse consults senior management on acquisitions and other operations. He is responsible for commodity strategy for the company, including oil and gas sector holdings and investment. Previously, he served as the managing director and global head of commodity research for Citi Group from 2011 to 2023. He has worked with notable institutions such as Lehman Brothers, Hess Energy Trading Center and the Energy Intelligence Group and served as the deputy assistant to the Secretary of State in Energy, Sanctions, and Commodities (ESC) from 1977 to 1981. Mr. Moore also worked as a senior advisor for the government of Yemen, helping them to develop an oil pricing strategy after they became an oil-producing country, and advised the Secretary General of the United Nations in establishing the Oil for Food Program in Iraq. He was recognized by Foreign Policy Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Americans involved in Foreign Affairs and by Petroleum Economist as one of the 10 Most Influential People in Energy Finance.
