In 2017, Mr. Patterson began working as a training specialist at Great Lakes Water Authority, utilizing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama. He provided training that aided many employees within the organization. He also collaborated with subject matter experts to identify training needs, which helped develop course materials and instruction for various classes. He also facilitated training sessions on Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Mr. Patterson later earned an MS in environmental science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2018. Since 2022, he has served as the environment, health and safety manager for Professional Contract Service Inc. In this role, he manages stormwater, soil erosion, detention basins, and workers who perform cleanup, emergency response, and corrective actions for the uncontrolled release of hazardous substances. He is also the owner and environmental director for Patterson’s MTC & Recycling LLC, where he teaches children via Project Learn the Operational Value of Your Environment (LOVE). Additionally, Mr. Patterson volunteers as a mentor with the 19th District Veteran’s Court in Dearborn, Michigan, and he delivers Meals on Wheels to seniors. He plans to continue his work helping and improving the environment by expanding his company and obtaining contracts for secondary tire and plastic recycling; he has worked on and pitched this plan for over five years. Mr. Patterson is also exploring ways to implement and improve healthy living in single homes in Michigan by using a method called hyperchlorination, which helps eliminate harmful bacteria from drinking water in interior pipes. Donald M. Patterson has dedicated himself to recycling services, nature conservation and environmental education. He honorably served in the United States Army for over 20 years as an active-duty officer and enlisted person.
