She is proud of her contributions to the development of treatments for neurofibromatosis type 2, including the development of a human cell line for pharmaceutical intervention. She is grateful for the support of her parents and mentors throughout her academic and career journeys and credits her success to her resiliency and passion for science. Dr. Petrilli is currently working toward establishing the extracellular vesicle research and core service at AdventHealth to find biomarkers for the diagnosis or progression of diabetes. She is committed to continuing her work and looks forward to being able to have a positive impact on the lives of patients and their families. Dr. Alejandra M. Petrilli has dedicated more than 35 years of her career to creating innovation in biochemistry. Originally from Argentina, she received a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires in 1987. While studying at the university, she worked as a researcher and teaching assistant and began her career as a biochemist in nuclear medicine at INVAP S.E., an Argentinian aerospace company. After immigrating to the United States, Dr. Petrilli attended the University of Central Florida, where she served as a graduate teaching assistant while pursuing her second master’s degree in biomolecular sciences. She earned a master’s degree in 2010 and a PhD in biomedical sciences in 2013, earning an award for her dissertation. Dr. Petrilli remained at the University of Central Florida as a postdoctoral researcher and became an assistant scholar and scientist at the university in 2016. Since 2021, she has continued her work as a research scientist for AdventHealth. Throughout her career, Dr. Petrilli has been honored for her research breakthrough, ALEJANDRA M.
