She cherishes the memory of a 14-year-old Black queer youth approaching her to thank her for creating a haven where they could express themselves and feel at home. This experience emboldened her passion for her work and exemplified her ability to make a positive impact. Dr. Cross attributes her success to the support of her community and team. As a woman of faith, she finds strength in her spiritual calling, which gives her purpose and helps her overcome obstacles. She is proud to have achieved many firsts in her field and hopes to continue breaking barriers. Looking to the future, Dr. Cross plans to step back from actively running organizations to become a consultant. Through consulting, she strives to help individuals and organizations achieve their goals. She also intends to spend time traveling, positioning herself as an experienced coach, speaker, and facilitator. Since 2022, the Rev. Dr. Lacette R. Cross has served as the executive director of Diversity Richmond, a community hub for the LGBTQ+ citizens of greater Richmond. She is the first queer Black woman to lead the organization, and she has worked tirelessly to advance its mission by remaining at the cutting edge of policy and business developments. Diversity Richmond was founded in 1999 as the Gay Community Foundation of Richmond to act as a catalyst and a resource to connect people, partners and programs. In 2015, they rebranded to Diversity Richmond and opened Diversity Thrift, a thrift store whose proceeds directly support operations. Dr. Cross began her career as a legal support specialist and sexual health educator, going on to earn a bachelor’s degree in social work from The Catholic University of America in 2009. She holds a Master of Divinity in theology from the School of Theology of Virginia Union University, a Master of Theology in theology and ethics, and a Doctor of Ministry in practical theology from Virginia Union University.
