120 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Debbie J. Bond is an educator and advocate who has dedicated her career to creating pathways for success for students at all educational levels. Growing up with a learning disability, she was made acutely aware of the help she should have received after the passage of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Motivated by this, Ms. Bond committed herself to providing a better education for students with disabilities. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and physical sciences from Wells College and a Master of Arts in interdisciplinary education from Santa Clara University and has completed doctoral coursework in instructional design, development, and evaluation at Syracuse University. A gifted student, Ms. Bond earned early accolades for disproving a potential Fibonacci sequence as a 19-year-old undergraduate, and she became an important figure in the development of online survey design using SQL. She brought this analytical perspective into the classroom, where she is known for her handson, cross-disciplinary approach to teaching, including implementing the Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction for students with dyslexia. Since 2020, Ms. Bond has been a science teacher at the Palmetto Achievement Center for Excellence (PACE) Academy, following an adjunct professor position at Villa Maria College and a teaching fellowship in statistical analysis at Syracuse University. In recognition of her innovations, Ms. Bond received the Zabriskie Science Award and was the 2024 STEM Educator of the Year Award for the Midlands of South Carolina. She credits her success to her determination to ensure that all students are able to thrive, and she intends to continue teaching while earning a PhD in the coming years. Ms. Bond also volunteers with numerous museums, disability rights organizations and animal welfare groups, and she is a championship hockey player. She became the first female captain of an all-male team to win a United States hockey championship in 2009. Furthermore, in the summer of 2024, she was one of 25 educators invited to NASA’s Space Center Houston to work with the educational program. DEBBIE J.
