124 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Sharon Ruth Eslick pursued a career in education in light of her fondness for children and her desire to help them succeed. Spurred on by encouragement from her high school counselor, she has now spent nearly 40 years in the profession, gaining extensive experience in high school and special education. After earning a Bachelor of Science in education at Illinois State University in 1984, she moved to Florida, where she initially intended to work in elementary education. She then secured a position at a high school and found her work there to be immensely enjoyable. Today, Ms. Eslick serves as a teacher at Mount Dora High School, having taught all her years in the Lake County School System. Following Mount Dora High School’s motto of “One Team,” Ms. Eslick believes teamwork is the key to success. Motivated to keep pushing forward by the constant support from her principal, administration and colleagues, she regularly attends training programs to remain current with the latest developments in education. Ms. Eslick is also well-regarded for her integrity and creative spark. In 2006, she underwent brain surgery and emerged victorious. To share her story of survival and inspire others, she is writing a book about her life. In her efforts to also maintain her passion for giving back to her community, she is a volunteer with the homeless ministry operated by her local church. Looking to the future, Ms. Eslick anticipates entering retirement while still contributing to the learning journeys of students. Through teaching, she hopes to instill a mindset of lifelong learning and inspire others to overcome any challenges life may present. Likewise, she hopes to instill the values of kindness and encouragement toward others. As she prepares for retirement, Ms. Eslick will continue learning and remain enthusiastic about education, setting an excellent example for her students.
